For almost two decades (98 to 117 AD) Trajan the Good ruled the Roman Empire. With his exceptional military ability, he expanded the empire to its territorial greatest extent in history. In 103, he included the Legion XIII Gemina of Petoviona in his conquests. He replaced the city's military leadership with a civilian administration and gave Poetoviona the status of a Roman colony, bearing his own name: Colonia Ulpia Traiana Poetovio.
