313. The Archbishop's Room

Defense, Konrad I. Abensberg (1106 - 1147). Single Room.

The Archbishops of Salzburg, who had lorded over Ptuj since 811, built the first castle in 870. However, the structure was not very solid, since Conrad I. already had to rebuild it in 1131. Without a strong fort, it was not possible to secure the eastern border against the Hungarians, who were constantly forcing their way across it. Conrad I. enthroned the family of the Lords of Ptuj in the restored castle, thus effectively securing the eastern border for three centuries.
