209. The City Judge’s Room

Justice, Ptuj Governed by a City Council and Judge (1278 - 1787). Double-bed.

When the Lords of Ptuj emerged as protectors of the city, it was time to fortify the walls (1250) and establish order. For more than five centuries, Ptuj has had a certified city judge. During this time, it was given two statutes (1376 and 1513) with detailed instructions, rights and duties for every citizen. The statute was respected and the judge’s sword feared by merchants, artisans and beggars alike.
